Henry Avery collection

Henry Avery, who was a descendant of George W. Smith, an early farmer in Waltham, donated this collection of items.

George W. Smith (1818-1875) was the son of Nathan Smith, Jr. and Elizabeth (Wellington) Smith and the husband of Mary Ann Towne Gay. He was the father of Ellen Maria Smith who married Charles Horatio Avery, the donor’s grandfather.

The collection consists mainly of photographs - of paintings of the Nathan Jonas Smith House (Lincoln St.), of a needlework sampler by Ellen Maria Smith, and of the donor - as well as some notes of explanation from the donor.
